My Gadgets Were Taking Up Too Much Desk Space
Once I started looking seriously at everything I kept around my workspace, I realized the desk itself was not really the problem. The bigger issue was how many small gadgets, cables and accessories were competing for the limited surface space I already had.
Headphones, chargers, my Nintendo Switch, speaker, phones, cables and the other bits and pieces I use regularly all needed somewhere to go. Putting everything into drawers would certainly hide the clutter, but it would also mean constantly digging around for things I use often. I wanted the storage to be practical, visible and within reach.
That is what led me to this two-tier clamp-on organizer. Instead of spreading everything across the desk, I could build upward and use space that had previously been doing absolutely nothing.
Adding Storage Without Permanently Changing the Desk
The organizer clamps onto the back edge of the desk, which immediately made it appealing for this setup. Just like the other additions in this series, I did not have to drill into the wood or permanently attach anything to the desk my father built.
Before loading it up, I could really see how much storage the frame added. There are two main shelves, a perforated center panel and additional areas around the sides where accessories can be attached or hung. What had previously been empty air above the back of my desk had suddenly become usable storage.
And because the organizer rises vertically instead of spreading across the desktop, almost all of that added capacity comes without sacrificing the working surface underneath it. For a small desk, that is exactly the kind of trade-off I wanted.
Giving My Office Gadgets a Home of Their Own
Then came the satisfying part: figuring out where everything should live.
My larger speaker found a home on the upper shelf, while the lower level became a convenient spot for my Nintendo Switch, chargers, wallet and other smaller electronics. Headphones could hang from the sides instead of being piled somewhere on the desk, while the additional holders and accessories gave me even more ways to organize cables, pens and the smaller things that usually wander around a workspace.
Seeing everything laid out before organizing it really showed me just how much stuff I had been asking one little desk to accommodate. Once those same items were moved onto and around the organizer, the difference became obvious. I had not gotten rid of anything — I had simply stopped asking the desktop to store all of it.
That is probably my favorite thing about this addition. It turned unused vertical space into something genuinely useful while keeping the desk itself intact. What could easily have become a very cluttered little office now feels much more intentional.

Could Your Desk Use Some Vertical Storage?
When floor space and desktop space are limited, sometimes the easiest place to go is up. This organizer gave my gadgets their own home while leaving much more of the desk available for the things I actually need in front of me while working. What would you move off your desk first if you had this extra storage space?
