How I Cleaned My Toilet Bowl With This Surprisingly Simple Hack

I Was Ready for a Hack That Didn’t Need a Chemistry Set

Some of my bathroom cleaning experiments had already introduced me to vinegar timers, baking soda paste and enough waiting around to make me feel like I should have been taking scientific notes.

This one was considerably less demanding.

I already had Pine-Sol among my cleaning products, and using it in the toilet bowl seemed simple enough to put to the test. No homemade mixture. No measuring spoons. No standing over the toilet wondering whether I had accidentally started a chemistry experiment.

The instructions were basically telling me to pour, brush, wait and flush.

For once, my toilet was not asking me to work overtime.

My Pine-Sol Toilet Bowl Cleaning Method

What You’ll Need:

  • Pine-Sol
  • Toilet brush
  • Cleaning gloves

Step 1 — Put On Your Gloves

Put on your cleaning gloves before starting.

It is a toilet bowl. This is not the part of the experiment where we need to prove anything.

Step 2 — Pour the Pine-Sol Into the Bowl

Pour Pine-Sol directly into the toilet bowl.

Make sure the product reaches the areas you plan to clean so the toilet brush can spread it around properly in the next step.

Step 3 — Brush the Bowl

Use the toilet brush to work the Pine-Sol around the inside of the bowl.

Brush beneath the rim, around the sides and into the little crevices where bathroom grime tends to quietly establish residency.

Give the areas that need more attention a little extra brushing rather than just performing one ceremonial lap around the bowl and calling it cleaning.

Step 4 — Let It Sit for a Few Minutes

Leave the Pine-Sol in the bowl for a few minutes after brushing.

This was probably the easiest part of the entire experiment because my only assignment was to leave the toilet alone.

I performed that step exceptionally well.

Step 5 — Flush the Toilet

Once the waiting time is over, flush the toilet to rinse everything away.

And that was it.

Pour. Brush. Wait. Flush.

After some of the other bathroom hacks I had been testing, I genuinely felt like there should have been another step hiding somewhere.

Pour. Brush. Wait. Flush. I Can Live With That.

What I appreciated most about this hack was how uncomplicated the whole process felt.

There was still some actual cleaning involved — the toilet brush was certainly not there for decoration — but I did not have to make a mixture, prepare a paste or repeatedly check a timer while wondering what was happening inside the bowl.

It was simply a straightforward way to give the toilet bowl a proper clean using something I already had on hand.

Sometimes the hacks I enjoy most are not the ones with a dramatic reveal. They are the ones that make an annoying little cleaning job feel like less of an event.

This one definitely belonged in that category.

The photos below show the full experiment in order, starting with the before condition, moving through the cleaning process and ending with the final after result.
