The Story Behind This Quick Invention (Total Recipe Time: 35 Minutes)
I had spent the night out, came home late and starving, and I just couldn’t wait on a one-hour meal. So, on my way home, I bought some pre-cooked shrimp and Spicy Buldak Ramen, both available at most local supermarkets. I then ran a quick cook-speriment that turned out so great, I’ve added it to my Marry Me Dishes line-up. I also love the bento-like vibes that it has. Apparently, hunger is one heck of a sous-chef when you give it 35 minutes and whatever looks promising in the supermarket.
Recipe: Ingredients (Prep Time: 10 minutes)
- Vegetables: Onion, tomato and pepper, finely diced to really maximize the flavour.
- Seasoning: 1 sachet (10 g) MAGGI Fish Seasoning, or seafood seasoning of choice, to taste.
- Shrimp: 1 container Jamaican pepper shrimp (ready-to-heat) or SeaPak Shrimp Scampi (U.S.).
- Rice: ¼ cup (about 45–50 g) uncooked long-grain white rice.
- Noodles: 1 pack Buldak Original Hot Chicken Flavor Ramen.
- Eggs: 2 eggs.
- Oil: 2 tsp cooking oil.
Recipe: Finally! Let’s Cook (Cook Time: 25 Minutes)
- Rice: Simmer rice in ½ cup water with ⅛ tsp salt for 20 minutes.
- Eggs: Cover 2 eggs with water and boil for 12 minutes. Peel when cool enough to handle.
- Noodles: Boil Buldak ramen for 3 minutes; drain and save sachets for later.
- Vegetables: Heat 2 tsp oil in pan for 2 minutes; add vegetables and cook for 1 minute. Add ¼ cup water and simmer for 1 minute.
- Shrimp & seasoning: Add to pan – shrimp, fish seasoning (I used MAGGI), ramen and seasoning sachets (use sparingly to reduce intense spiciness – to taste). Stir thoroughly and cook until heated through.
- Eggs: Add the peeled eggs as you prefer them—whole, halved or sliced.
- Finale: Serve your shrimp, noodles and eggs with fluffy rice!
The result should be rich, savoury, creamy and packed with flavour, with tender shrimp, glossy noodles, colourful vegetables and enough sauce to coat every strand. It’s the kind of quick dinner that has earned its place in the Your Slice of Life Marry Me lineup.
