Mary Ann Alexander: The Voice That Stopped My Endless Scrolling

How I Discovered Mary Ann Alexander’s “Too Much?”

It was just one of those days when I was scrolling my life away on Instagram, aimlessly it seemed. Telling myself that I’d put the phone away and find something productive to do within the next 5 minutes—which turned into 30 minutes, which then turned into what felt like hours. However, much to my delight, I came across a post that sampled an artist I had never heard before. I was like, this is a very interesting voice.

I don’t even remember the post, but I remembered the voice—and that is how you know the music hits different. I now feel it is my life’s mission to share Mary Ann Alexander
with the world!

The Culture and Highlights from Mary Ann Alexander’s “Too Much?” Music Video

I have always been fond of Indian culture, from the vibrancy and colours of their fashion, the physical and inner beauty of its people, and the skillful, enthralling storytelling in Bollywood movies, which gives you a nice escape from the everyday norms of Hollywood films. O, yes! And I must not leave out their exceptional cuisine—I mean, have you ever tried their Tandoori Chicken? I have, and let me tell you, it is seasoned all the way to the bone. Now that I’ve established that I’m a fanatic of Indian culture, let’s get back to Mary Ann Alexander’s “Too Much?”.

Mary Ann’s magical fusion of Indian melodies has forever sun-kissed the landscape of R&B music. You seldom find music videos that remind you of walking through a timeless art gallery. Do yourself the pleasure of watching it for yourself and experiencing the visual feast of scenery that will pull you into a waking-dream. I feel as though major institutions around the world have done us all an injustice by NOT ROUTINELY speaking about the beauty of Kerala, India—which provides the breathtaking backdrop for this mystical music video. But not even the beauty of Kerala can compare with the goddess Mary Ann. Everything from the sultriness of her voice and her inescapable beauty pulling you into her orbit, complemented by delicate Indian-influenced dance choreography, makes everything about this video magical.

The Woman Behind the Voice

Mary Ann Alexander is an Indian singer-songwriter from Kerala, whose sound beautifully blends R&B, soul and influences from her cultural roots. In her mid-20s as of 2026, Mary grew up around music, began recording as a child and later found her own voice as an independent artist—bringing a refreshing Indian identity to contemporary R&B. Her creative journey extends beyond music.

Mary studied Visual Communication and worked as a graphic designer and illustrator before pursuing music more fully. She wrote her first original song at just 15, later ventured into Malayalam cinema, and has continued building her independent catalogue—culminating in her debut EP, Love or a Lesson.
