Sometimes Choosing the Meal Is the Hard Part
Welcome to My Meal Ideas Series
A growing collection of simple breakfast, lunch and dinner ideas for the days when deciding what to eat is half the battle. Keep reading to explore the series.
There are days when cooking is not really the problem. The problem is standing in the kitchen trying to decide what you actually want to make.
That is what this Meal Ideas series is for. I wanted one place where I could collect breakfast, lunch and dinner ideas that feel practical enough for real life—whether I need something quick before the day starts, something filling in the middle of it or a proper dinner without turning the kitchen into an all-night project.
And because I actually cook some of these meals myself, each collection starts with one of my own dishes before branching out into other recipes worth trying.
Start With the Meal You Need
The series is divided into breakfast, lunch and dinner, so you can head straight to whichever meal currently has you staring into the kitchen wondering what to make.
- 10 Breakfast Ideas: Quick, filling breakfast inspiration for mornings when you want something satisfying without too much effort.
- 10 Lunch Ideas: Practical, satisfying lunch ideas for when you want something filling enough to carry you through the day.
- 10 Quick Dinner Ideas: Easy dinner inspiration for nights when you want something delicious without spending all evening in the kitchen.
Each collection starts with one recipe I made myself, complete with my own photos, experience and full cooking method. The remaining ideas are dishes I think are worth considering, with links to the original food creators so you can get the full ingredients and instructions directly from them.
For breakfast, I’m starting with my Canned Corned Beef and Rice, the kind of meal I make when I’ve just woken up and have no intention of spending the morning attached to the stove. Lunch begins with my Coconut Chicken Lunch, complete with the thick gravy a lifelong gravy guy considers absolutely necessary. And for dinner, there is my Shrimp & Noodles, a dish that turned out so well the first time that making it again became inevitable.
A Growing Collection of Meals Worth Trying
I do not expect this section of Your Slice of Life to stop at thirty meal ideas. The point is to build something I can keep returning to whenever I cook something worth repeating—or come across a dish that immediately makes me start thinking about my next grocery trip.
Some meals will be almost suspiciously simple. Others might require a little more effort. But they all need to pass the same test: would I actually want this on my plate?
And whenever another one of my own kitchen experiments earns a place in the collection, even better. The goal is not to make cooking complicated. It is to make answering “What am I going to eat?” a little easier.
